WORKED EXAMPLE · CHINESE PDF TO ENGLISH WORD
A Chinese half-year report summary translated into English
An analyst had the four-page Chinese summary of a Shenzhen-listed company’s 2026 half-year report, as a PDF. They asked to translate it into English for a colleague in London, keeping the tables and layout and using IFRS-style accounting terms.
turned the PDF into a Word file, translated every line and table, and kept every figure. The tables came through; the page layout did not: the English runs to seven pages, with narrow text columns and two headings merged.

- 12 / 12key figures we checked, unchanged
- 0Chinese characters left
- 4 → 7pages, source to English

The source PDF is linked at the stock exchange’s disclosure site. The Word file is the one from the run. Download it and open it in Word.
Where the file comes from: CNINFO, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s designated disclosure site: Ziel Home Furnishing Technology Co., Ltd. (301376), 2026 half-year report summary, announcement 2026-052. The company has not reviewed or endorsed this example.
01 · THE STARTING FILE
Four pages of Chinese text, tables and tick boxes
The summary is a text PDF in Simplified Chinese: an important-notice section with “applicable / not applicable” tick boxes, a company profile table, the key accounting data, the shareholder count and the top 10 shareholders, and the notes on controlling shareholders, preferred shares and bonds.
A PDF cannot be edited line by line, so first converted it to Word, then translated the Word file. The page layout of the result comes from that conversion.

02 · THE REQUEST
"Translate this into English for our PM in London"
What the analyst typed
Translate this into English for our PM in London. Keep the tables and layout, use standard IFRS-style English for the accounting terms.
What did
- Converted the PDF to Word and translated every paragraph and table cell into English, with IFRS-style terms such as “net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company” and “non-recurring gains and losses”.
- Kept every figure, date and percentage as written, and the five tables with their rows and columns.
- Did not keep the page layout: paragraphs keep the narrow widths of the Chinese lines, so the English wraps into short lines and runs to seven pages.
- Merged two headings into one paragraph: “II. Company Profile 1. Company Information”.
- Its finish message said the Word file keeps all the tables and the layout.

- 4,825,634,589.03revenue, RMB
- 19.32%revenue growth
- 245,987,255.17net profit attributable to shareholders
- -12.55%excluding non-recurring items
- 8,363ordinary shareholders
- 50.01%held by Song Chuan
We checked it against the source: the twelve key figures we looked for are all in the English file exactly as in the PDF, including 201,268,169 shares; no Chinese character is left; the no-dividend sentence is translated correctly; the source has four pages and the English file seven.
